As per the details available in the website of department of hydropower development, the state government as on 30th September 2010 has signed 133 MOU/MOAs with various power developers to start power project in Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang district has alone 15 dams planned over rivers like Nyamjungchu, Mago Chu, Nykcharongchu etc.
Recently members of Society for Development of Culture and Education (SDCE), a Mysore based NGO run by monks belonging to Tawang district had alleged that the district administration has forcibly stopped them from carrying out awareness campaign about hydropower projects in the district. The district administration denied the allegation and since then things seem to have cooled down.
But the district administration seems to have pressed the panic button by organizing general meeting on development of hydropower on 12th February. The meeting was attended, among others, by Tourism Minister Pema Khandu, MLAs Tsewang Dondup and Jambey Tashi, representatives of power developers like NHPC, Bhilwara Energy Ltd, EDCL, SEW Energy, local public and officials from department of hydropower development. Even though for the moment politicians and district officials have managed to quell the protest against hydropower project in Tawang but the fact is that everyone is expressing serious concern over coming up of so many projects within a single district.
Situated at a very high altitude, Tawang district is surrounded by snow covered Himalayan Mountains. The total forest cover area is 1251 sq km. It is considered to be the most beautiful place of Arunachal and therefore it needs environmental protection to keep intact its beauty.

It should also be pointed out that the original Bhalukpong to Tawang Road is not capable of transporting heavy dam equipment through Sela Pass. Therefore, the Central govt took decision to widen the road, which will have a huge impact on the environment in the region. Though it was made to believe that road is being widened for military purpose but reality is something different. By cutting hills in the name of road widening, the authorities are damaging the environment. “The road to Lumla which links the Tawang Chu II is very fragile and has large number of active landslide prone zones. Every year during monsoon season rain washes away portions of road. If heavy equipments meant for power projects are transported through this particular stretch of road, it will have serious impact. The hills might come down in the future,” said an expert.
Its upto state government and people of Tawang to decide whether they want to go ahead with all 15 power projects. But from environmental aspect there is urgent need to create awareness about the impact of these projects on virgin dense forest with rare species of wildlife.

Jomnya Siram and Joram Tajing are popular artistes of their generation and till today they continue to woo heart of young generation. Jomnya Siram who was born on 14th April 1959 at Tadin Village, West Siang district is in singing field since 1968. A graduate from JN College, Pasighat he was recognized as AIR artiste Dibrugarh in 1972. He recorded more than 100 songs in Galo, Mishing and Wancho dialects. He sung along with legendary Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in 1974 at Aalo and in 1979 at Pasighat town club. His most popular songs include Take Ngo, Kajle jine dane gel odor tolo, Kaju angong gilaju etc. He received gold medal from Sur Nandan Bharati Society, Kolkata in 2008 and Commendation certificate from Siang Welfare Culture Society, Aalo in 1976 for his contribution in the field of music. Currently he is serving as deputy director, Art and Culture Department. Joram Tajing, the popular comedian was born on 27th December, 1956 at Joram village under Yachuli circle of Lower Subansiri. Tajing gained popularity with his comic act in Meri Dharam Meri Maa, the first Hindi movie of Arunachal which was directed by late Dr Bhupen Hazarika. At present he is the Chairman of Joram Socio Cultural & Literary Society.

BJP demands enquiry into Rs 2.5 cr scam
ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh today demanded thorough enquiry into the reported 2.5 crore scam in Art and Culture department in the state.

MMC in Tirap, NSU mobilizes youths for awareness
DEOMALI, Feb 14: After an arduous journey of about 20 days covering 12 districts of the state, the Red Rockfest, a concert under the Multi Media Campaign being organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) finally reached Deomali in Tirap district on February 13 to create awareness on HIV among the youths.
The strategically located Deomali, a small town located in the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, was the last venue of the district tour of MMC. The show was conducted away from the district headquarters for the reason that ‘Wancha Rajkumar College’ the only Government College of Tirap district is located here. Moreover, as the target audience of MMC Red Rockfest was the youth aged between 15 to 29 years, Deomali was the obvious choice for the venue, and thanks to Nocte Students Union (NSU) and Medical Department of the district for setting up an excellent open air stage within a very short period in the general ground of Deomali.
Leading from the front NSU not only put up a good stage for the show but also created an excellent ambience in and around Deomali for people to participate in the concert. NSU president Inwang Lowang wanted to ensure that people turn up for such concert so that message on HIV/AIDS can be percolated down to the mass. Youth has a very important role to play in controlling the menace of HIV, he said. Three local bands from the district, the Blue Ink, Alpine Treasure, Fire String with its rocking numbers entertained the Deomali audience in the evening. Alien Gods known for its crowd pulling capacity rocked the young audience of Deomali whole through the show. At the same time the dead metal band also asked its young fans to remain aware about HIV and stay safe.
Earlier, ZPM K. Lowang while kicking off the MMC asked the Tirap youths to participate in disseminating the message on HIV to the general population. He also said prevention is always better than cure.

Director (IEC), APSACS, in his introductory note on MMC said that the young age is very vulnerable and young people tend to experiment on anything which may become matter of regret in later part of life. Young age between 15 to 29 year is very precious and productive age, youth should utilize this period to shape their career, he added.

State level Citrus Show draws huge crowd

PASIGHAT, Feb 14: The College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Siang district organized a state level “Citrus show” on February 10.
Display of citrus fruit species drew the attention of large number of visitors, Scientists, farmers and general public. More than 500 farmers from different areas of the state visited the show.
Addressing on the occasion, retired director of state horticulture department Dr Alok Tagi highlighted the development of horticulture sector in the state with reference to encouraging growth of citrus fruits.
Pasighat CHF Dean, Dr. B N Hazarika said the objective of the Citrus Show was to encourage quality production of citrus fruits in the state and assess the problems faced by the farmers.
He revealed that climatic condition of Arunachal Pradesh provides a congenial environment for production of a wide range of citrus species. However, he gave emphasis on use of modern technology by farmers to increase the product level.

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti in collaboration with a counselling team of Saraswati Thyagaraja College (STC) Coimbatore led by its secretary S. Venkatesh organised a five days Educational Career Guidance and Counselling workshops at Green Mount, Aronadaya Hr Sec School, Kendra Vidhyalaya No.1, V.K.V Balijan, Simple Beginning coaching institutes Naharlagun and V.K.V Chimpu recently. Altogether 782 students participated in the workshop.
During the workshop, it was observed that students of this state are really in need of career counselling. The speciality of the workshop was that students were guided on “How to choose what career.” In order to success in any course one needs to indentify one’s own aptitude, type of personality, intelligent level and field of interest. . Identifying these aspects makes the chosen subject very easy to grasp and understand thus resulting excellent output.
According to Dr. Janatius Director, Centre for Counselling and Guidance (STC) people remain unemployed because of mismatch of their educational course with own aptitude and interest. He further said, even if a person is successful in securing a high profile job but if it is not of his liking and aptitude his life would be in disaster. He won’t be living satisfied and happy life; instead he would be wasting his real talent and abilities.

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Gauhati High Court has ordered the authorities to stop payment
for NLCPR road project from Chambang to Phaa 30-
Judge K Meruno gave the ruling on February 8 while disposing of a case WP (C) 25/2012 filed by two petitioners of Chamgang.
The Court in its ruling said, “the total amount of money involved in these work order is amounting to Rs 1179.22 lakh and out of which , the payment of Rs 2,80,00,000 have already been released to the respondent No 11 (M/s Reniya Enterprises) as rolling advance money without executing any contract work orders. Being aggrieved by the action of the respondents in awarding the said contracts work to the respondent No 11, this writ petition has been filed.”

Cleanliness is godliness. In the modern society nobody wants to live in dirt. So, through your esteemed daily an appeal is made to all the concerned citizens of capital complex to make an effort to keep our city clean. Now days, garbage has become a burning problem. Garbage, if not properly disposed off, spreads pollution. Pollution spreads disease and makes us sick. Garbage on roadside is also nauseating. So, to live healthy, we need to put some effort in order to keep our environment clean. With the increase in population, consumsation of packed food items has considerably increased. The packed food items contribute a lot to the quantum of garbage produced daily. Though, the Deptt. of Urban Development & Housing is trying their best in disposing garbage, there effort gets wasted if we do not change ourselvs to maintain minimum discipline while throwing our household waste outside. We should not depend on the Govt. deptt. alone for cleanliness. Since, it is a very serious issue, all of us need to give a serious thought and do something for the purpose. We must keep in mind that, polluting environment is a social crime. So, stop. think and act to keep clean our mother earth and live healthy. So, as to minimise garbage, we may ponder on
the following points :

1. Keeping bins in every house for storing garbage.
2. Dumping bio-
3. Burning polythene bags and other empty packets etc. instead of throwing them outside.
4. Educating helping hands of your family regarding cleanliness.
5. Keeping away domestic animals littering in garbage.

1. To ensure regular visit of waste carrying vehicles to every residential areas.
2. To educate people using hordings, banners etc. to keep environment clean.
3. To introduce door to door collection of garbage using small vehicles for disposing garbage.
4. To place big bins on wheel for collection and easy removal of garbage, in market area.

Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to the notice of the competent authorities, parents and student leaders of the dismal situation of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Naharlagun, which has been one of the prestigious schools of our capital. With the change in authority in the recent past, an air of favouritism and nepotism has gripped the school. Flouting Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan rules, a section of the teachers have indulged in private tuitions so much so that the students are made to believe that those who join private tuitions will get better marks. This is sheer injustice as barring a few; most of the students are from poor background and can hardly afford private tuitions. Besides the future of our kids is doomed as after tiresome tuition sessions teachers can never remain dedicated at school.
Recently it is said that when a section of the teachers protested against private
tuitions being conducted by some of their fellow teachers, in place of being lauded
they had been framed, targeted, intimidated and victimized by the school authorities.
This treatment is said to be given in lieu of free tuitions to the wards of the school
authority who happen to be joint entrance aspirant. It is heart-
When it comes to recruitment of contract (temporary) teachers, kith and kins of those close to the authorities have been selected time and again, in some cases even without conducting any interview as otherwise required as per rules. There are instances when local candidates already selected by conducting interviews have been made to quit on different pretext so as to make room for their near and dear ones. Ironically however we have so many unemployed qualified local youth who could have otherwise contributed to the betterment of the school and its students. Preferring personal acquaintance over quality while selecting teachers can do nothing but harm the students.
It is also observed that a section of the teachers who are close to the authorities will remain present on record even if they are physically absent from school. Some of them will come to school whenever they wish to. In return they will offer personal favors to the authority. As usual, students are once again the worst sufferers of such an understanding.

All such wrongful practices are taking a toll on studies of our children and must not be allowed at any cost. Teachers and school authorities are public servants and are answerable to the society and must govern themselves as per the rules and guiding principles and not by favouritism and nepotism.
I would prefer to remain anonymous as I would definitely not like my child to be a victim. Nor can I be a party to it by being a mute spectator of such injustice.
